Researchers have found that breast tissue from BRCA1 positive women have large “luminal progenitor cells.” Originally it was thought that basal like breast cancers in BRCA1 positive women originated from the mammary stem cell, now it is being suggested that these cancers are from abnormal luminal progenitor cells.
When researchers find the reasons for cell changes causing breast cancer they will be able to target therapy cures to them.

It is being suggested that Breast Cancer patients with any lymph node involvement/early stage breast cancer – stray-microscopic cells may have a higher incidence of recurrent disease & may need more treatment than just surgery. Not all women are given estrogen blocking drugs & or chemo treatment. Some women have less aggressive breast cancer treatments—this is what is in question—should it be more aggressive?

New research is coming out SUGGESTING to us that weight lifting may aid in the prevention of arm swelling rather than promoting it! They now suggest that lifting our groceries, weights etc. will help with muscle tone & not cause lymphadema— might even prevent it.

It’s a new national clinical study going on right now & it’s called “cryoablation.” Dr. Simmons from the Iris Cantor Women’s Health Center in NYC was interviewed. It’s a 20 minute procedure that freezes & kills the breast cancer cells. It can be done in the doctor’s office & can possibly eliminate the need for chemotherapy in the future. It’s possible that the side effect of this technique can boost the patient’s own body to fight off its own cancer in the future!

The FDA, CDC, NIH & the antiperspirant people will not rule out a link between the products that contain aluminum & breast cancer risk, but they also tell us not to throw away our products. Apparently nothing has changed…deodorants are so called safer products but they only mask odor- they don’t keep you from sweating.
(since this is my blog…I can let you know that Toms of Maine has an aluminum free deodorant!)

New drug olaparib offers hope to women with genetic breast cancer by David Rose

Olaparib is made by AstraZeneca & is being used in clinical trials to treat & or prevent cancer in high risk or BRCA families. They feel this drug is very promising in blocking the protein that makes cancer cells –causing only the cancer cell to either die or shrink. (BRCA patients have the mutated gene that is supposed to repair or fix damaged DNA—therefore when the repair doesn’t work properly mistakes in the DNA accumulate, do not repair & cancer develops.)
