I am a 58 yr old registered nurse with my second round of br ca that has mets to rt femur and lower spine. I am taking Herceptin every 3 weeks and Aredia every 6 wks. I also had 30 days of radiation to affected areas. My tumor markers are down to normal range, but I still wonder if this is all I need to do. I guess I want to know if anyone out there is taking the same treatment, or if there is something better out there.
Welcome to our site. We were down for awhile, but I will see if I can get you some answers.PLEASE KNOW THAT THE BEST PERSON TO ASK IS YOUR PHYSICIAN! Why don't you get a second opinion?
Everyone has different experiences, & what works for one person may not work for another. What state are you in?
Please be well!

I was a little puzzled when I read this post. As an RN, I would think that you have at your disposal many Doctor & RN colleague contacts; many healthcare professional opinions to whom you can turn to & bounce off of.
Be that as it may, I get much information from my bi monthly support group. As a group, we share & learn. I would suggest that you find a local support group in your home town area.
I would further schedule second & third opinions with oncology referrals.
I wish you continued good health:)

OK….I took this question to my group of peers. The following response is not from a medical professional, just someone in my inner circle. She chooses to be anonymous. Here is her response:
I'm a bit confused about where this came from but the girls treatment sounds reasonable to me. Aredia is a bone strengthening drug (Zometa), the radiation was to kill the mets and alive pain and obviously she is HER2 + and getting Herceptin. She doesn't say if any recent scans showed that all is clear??? If it is then she should just be watched frequently and if any other mets show up, treat them at that time.

The article speaks about future treatment for breast cancer is in targeting specific tumors with specific drugs . Herceptin is one of those target specific drugs.
BPowell, as far as Doctor advice, I consulted briefly on your behalf. I was told that my advice to you was perfect…if unsure of your care…go for another opinion. Even if someone out here in cyberland is under the same care as you, or if someone is having other care…it might not be the best care for YOU!
