according to this article: 2482 women who had the BRCA mutation were tracked & followed in a study.
results: 7% who did not have mastectomies developed breast cancer
6% who retained their ovaries developed ovarian cancer
no breast cancer in the mastectomy group & 1% who had the ovary surgery developed ovarian cancer.
prophylactic surgery saves lives
