Does anyone know of a standard of montoring after cancer treatment? I am on Tamoxifen and have had a double mastectomy and ooferectomy. Should I be getting yrealy MRI's? Yearly PET scans? Is there a standard for those of us who are high risk?

I am on Arimidex & 2 1/2 yrs post Op. I have had a bi-lateral mastectomy & Oopherectomy & full hysterectomy. I am BRCA 2. The first year, I saw my Oncologist every 3 months. Now, I see him twice yearly. I have asked him the same question & he is of the opinion that I do not need to see a gynecologist or have follow up mammo's, sonos, or MRI's. I continue to see him for my examination & follow up blood work.

I can tell you that I attend a bi monthly breast cancer support group in the breast center of my local hospital. There I can learn about any new treatment protocals & stay up to date. Additionally it is wonderful to meet new friends & stay emotionally healthy as well.

Good luck to you!

I have a BRCA-2 gene mutation. I'm scheduled for a prophylactic double mastectomy this week. I had a total hysterectomy last year. I have a yearly ultrasound to check for any cancer in the tissue around the ovaries, uterus. I will not get MRIs and mammograms, but will get a yearly breast exam.
Hope this helps. Best to all!

This question should be answered by a MD.

Hi,

I know we spoke yesterday DDuffy…& i agree with M. above. ALWAYS discuss your case with your doctors. We are just a group here who can share our experiences which may not be in your best interest. Be that as it may…

I too need a yearly exam with my breast surgeon, gyno oncologist, & plastic surgeon.

You now have a cancer history & you should discuss that vigilance with your oncologist.

I will continue to post responses as they come in for you though.

Be well…..

Tobey
