Does Caltrate 600-D have soy in it? Recently I was having a conversation with a patient, who informed me that her Oncologist forbade her to take Caltrate, as it had soy in it. My Oncologist SPECIFICALLY mentioned Caltrate as a supplement he advised his patients to take!
I'm confused, really at a loss as to what to do……..any feedback?

from a medical professional:
Hi Tobey, According to the New England Journal of Medicine, studies show there is sufficient evidence to prove that calcium, vit D and soy actually can help reduce your risk of breast cancer and ovarian cancer. There are other benefits from the caltrate and soy, as in heart health, lowering cholesterol and actually helping with lubrication of joints therefore easing joint pain and pressure. Hope this helps.

I have read that because soy is similiar in your body to estrogen too much can be harmful. But I guess it isn't supposed to cause it.

Hello All,
After much investigation, I checked with a friend of mine who is a Pharmacist. As with all the information on this site…PLEASE CHECK ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN!
I just try here to bring us the BEST information!
With that said… the Pharmacist has informed me that CALTRATE does indeed have soy oil—although it is in a small amount—HE would NOT RECOMMEND it for anyone who has breast cancer issues.
He felt a wiser choice would be either Os-Cal or Citracal or the generic form of either. He stated that neither of these products has any soy.
AGAIN, PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN TO SEE WHAT IS IN YOUR BEST INTEREST!

I'm so ticked off that soy is not listed in the ingredient list for Caltrate. How is it even POSSIBLE, that with so much controversy regarding soy, that this is permitted? I was SO diligent in removing soy from my diet, only to find out that I've been taking it for the past 3 years. Totally SUX!

This is an email I received in response to my questioning the manufacturer of Caltrate:
